OVIK Health’s cohesive wraps and tapes are designed to empower athletes to perform at their best by helping to prevent injuries and assisting with post-injury recovery.
Our sports medicine team visits with teams and athletic trainers in various settings across the country to educate users on taping best practices and the benefits of using our PowerFlex® taping system. Recently, our team visited Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts to meet their current class of athletic training students, provide education on tapes and the materials they are made from, and offer hands-on application training. Ali Bower, MAT, ATC, FAFS presented the class, along with their teaching assistant Grace Brennan, with an in-depth look at the history of athletic tapes and taping methods, accompanied with scientific data and study results. After the presentation, she demonstrated several common taping techniques. The students then had the opportunity to ask questions and get hands-on practice with various taping techniques. She was able to provide coaching as they practiced, along with help from Erik Hunkemoeller (OVIK Health/PowerFlex®) and Brett Winston, PhD, LAT, ATC (Clinical Education Coordinator/Associate Professor at Springfield College).
“OVIK Health has been instrumental in ensuring our athletic training students have a solid foundation with regard to an evidence based approach to taping. Students were able to apply their taping skills using the PowerFlex® taping system while simultaneously learning about the properties of a variety of tapes and how that enhances the care being provided.” – Brett Winston, Clinical Education Coordinator/Associate Professor, Springfield College
After practicing several techniques using multiple products, the participants had the opportunity to show what they learned by answering a series of questions, earning prizes for correct answers. The class was energetic and engaged in learning about the topic!
