Today, we highlight Ligia Rivera Fernandez, a Machine Operator at the Salisbury Plant in Salisbury, Massachusetts, whose commitment to excellence in product and process ensures we deliver the highest quality products to our customers.
A Path to OVIK
“I started at this company in December 2022 as a temporary employee. After a period of time, I was hired directly by the company,” she says. In her relatively short time here, she has already made a significant impact.
Guidance and Mentorship
Ligia credits her growth and multiskilled expertise to three key individuals: Ricky Castillo, Production Supervisor; Jesusa Sanchez, Production Team Lead; and . “They all have helped me a lot and have taught me a great deal of things not only in my primary job but in other areas,” Ligia explains. This guidance has been instrumental in her development.
Daily Operations
Ligia starts her day by arriving early, placing her belongings in the lockers, and attending the shift team “huddle” with her lead and team members. “My favorite part of the day is when I get to support other areas beyond my own. I enjoy being busy,” she shares. This proactive attitude keeps her engaged and productive throughout her shift.
The Role and Responsibilities
Ligia’s role is multifaceted and requires constant attention to detail. “It is an entertaining role because there are so many things I must pay attention to: job order instructions to load the right recipe, verifying the product is coming out with good quality, keeping an eye on my teammate from the next process so that he has what he needs,” she explains. Her job keeps her very active and ensures that each product meets the highest standards.
Safety Commitment
Safety is paramount for Ligia. “I stay safe by wearing all my required PPE, reporting and eliminating hazards, and not using unauthorized tools or equipment. Safety is very important as we don’t want anybody to get hurt,” she emphasizes. Her dedication to safety ensures a secure working environment for everyone at the plant.
Making a Difference
Ligia takes pride in being part of a team that makes a global impact. “I feel great to be part of a team that helps many people around the world,” she says. Her contributions are vital to ensuring that OVIK products meet the needs of thousands of customers.
What She Loves Most
“One of the things I love most about my job is when at the end of the day we hit all our safety, quality, and production goals,” she shares. This sense of accomplishment is a testament to her hard work and dedication.
When asked to describe her experience at OVIK in one word, Ligia chooses “Calidad,” which means “Quality” in Spanish. “I chose this word because, as part of a team that delivers products to thousands of people, our products have to be of the highest quality to satisfy our customers,” she explains. This focus on quality is at the core of her commitment to her role.
