A prospective case series study was completed by the Hamilton Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center in Dalton, GA, and presented as a poster at the SAWC Fall 2021 Conference held in Las Vegas, NV.
This study utilized OVIK Health’s new gellable fiber dressing, AGILE, on 3 patients with challenging exudating wounds. The cases shared in this study consisted of 2 diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) and 1 venous leg ulcer (VLU). Different advanced wound care products and treatments were utilized, such as medical grade honey foam, calcium alginate, collagen, negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT), and total contact casts (TCC).
By switching the treatment plan to the AGILE gellable fiber dressing, the wounds progressed from the stalled inflammatory phase to wound healing primarily due to the moist, not overly saturated, wound-dressing interface. Wound closure was achieved in 15 weeks or less for all 3 cases.
This study noted several benefits from utilizing AGILE: flattening of the wounds’ edges, decreased maceration to the peri-wound, improvement in peri-wound inflammation, and maintaining an optimal moist wound healing environment.
